Hawthorne Creek Creamery, A Family Owned and Operated Dairy Farm and Artisan Cheese Producer

Welcome to our first blog post! Over the last three years since we started making cheese, we have been hard at work selling our products and perfecting our craft. We have had an incredible amount of support and help from our community getting started and we wanted to start showcasing who we are and what is going on at the farm. Follow along with our blog posts to get an inside scoop on everything that goes on at Hawthorne Creek Creamery!

My name is Kevin Lussier and my wife, Shelby, and I are owners of Hawthorne Creek Creamery. I am a 5th generation dairy farmer who came back to the family dairy farm in 2016, after graduating college, to make it a career of my own. As we began our career we quickly realized that our family farm was going to need to grow or diversify to be able to support another family member and be profitable in today's markets. In 2019 we were approached by our neighbors, John and Nancy, with an opportunity to begin making cheese and milking cows at their facility in Hawthorne. After much discussion, we decided to take a leap of faith and begin to make cheese in 2020. Many people have asked us how we learned the cheese-making process and the answer is simple, we had a lot of help. Nancy, the previous owner and cheesemaker agreed to stay on and teach us the process to get started, she is still working with us today! We are incredibly thankful to them both for all the help that they have provided us in this new venture. My parents have also helped us get started. My father, Matt, has helped guide us through running our farm and my mother, Linda, has joined our staff as a full-time cheese maker. We are the definition of a family farm!

Our cows are just as important to us as our family. We work hard every day to ensure they have everything they need to be happy and healthy. Our girls are the backbone of our farm and we love each and every one of them. We work with veterinarians, nutritionists and milk quality experts to ensure we are providing the best care for them to provide us with high-quality, fresh milk for our cheese. After all high-quality cheese only comes from quality milk.
